International Women's Day: Josephine Hodges

As part of International Women's Day (IWD) held on 8 March 2021, we have selected two women from Airmaster who have demonstrated the value of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Our final interview this week is with Josephine Hodges, Human Resources Advisor at Airmaster.

What is your current role?

HR Advisor

What does your role entail?

Supporting the business with various aspects of employment which ranges from recruitment, maintaining compliance and employee relations.

What skills are important to have in your sector?

Strong time management skills and the ability to multitask. You never know what the day is going to throw at you so you need to be prepared to juggle things around and prioritise. Good communication skills, honesty and discretion are other important skills to have when working in HR.

How have you found being a woman, working in your sector?

HR tends to be a female dominated sector however for me working in a male dominated industry has been very rewarding but has also had its challenges. I think as long as you trust your skills and show empathy and support you can achieve the desired outcomes.

What does the International Women’s Day slogan, #ChooseToChallenge mean for you in your work life?

For me, the slogan promotes career growth. If you allow yourself to engage in new tasks and responsibilities it will not only promote career growth but opens up opportunities for ongoing learning.

Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women considering pursuing a career in your field?

To be resilient. Failures and disappointments are going to happen occasionally but learn from these and continue to grow.
