Looking Ahead – A History of Airmaster in Newcastle

Based in Beresfield in Newcastle’s north-western suburbs, the branch grew quickly in the early years and met growing demand to provide a local support hub for an expanding client base and service team.

Having completed previous projects in the Hunter region, including a major installation at the Lakehaven Shopping Centre, opening a regional branch based in Newcastle seemed like the logical next step in supporting Airmaster’s New South Wales operation.

With Airmaster committed to bringing their award-winning solutions to a local climate, the Newcastle branch began operations without a formal branch manager, however, was overseen by Regional Service Manager Rob Jurzak who was based out of Airmaster’s New South Wales branch in North Rocks, Sydney.

With Rob at the helm, Airmaster Newcastle commenced with nine employees and still have five of the original starters working at the company today. This includes Todd Blenman who has been in the Airmaster family for since 2005 and is the branches current Regional Service Manager.

“The team at Airmaster Newcastle come from varied backgrounds. One thing that stands out and that I am extremely proud of is our fantastic culture and the longevity of our staff,” says Todd.

"Our technicians have between 5 through to 16 years of service with Airmaster. This highlights to me that we have the recipe for a great culture and proves our company is a great place to work.”

Beginning as a service provider of HVAC, Building Automation, Projects and Chillers, the branch has welcomed expansion with new services in energy management, building analytics as well as speciality UV Indoor Air Quality solutions.

Airmaster Newcastle has achieved major success with a large portfolio of retail projects, servicing local shopping hubs and major retailers such as Zara, Grill’d, Rebel Sport and BCF, adding to an already well-known portfolio of new, local and national clients.

Although retail remains a large portion of the current works, the Newcastle branch has since welcomed contracts in other key sectors including Government, Health, Defence, and Commercial.

Due to an expanding customer base and revenue growth over the past six years, the branch outgrew its original premises and now operates from Gateshead in Lake Macquarie and has a total of 11 employees.

The branches projects department has achieved significant growth in Newcastle and has been steered by the great leadership of Chris Koop. In recent years the branch has appointed a full-time projects technician to ensure all day-to-day works are delivered to the highest standard.

As a positive office culture is always paramount in the Airmaster business, the Newcastle branch has fully adopted the company’s values, strategy, risk appetite and policies. An increase has been seen in staff continuity and well as a great support network and social engagement. As time passes and more growth is achieved, the branch is moulding into an all-inclusive environment built on the foundations of sustenance, quality service and structure.
